Planning checklist
- Book the clinic or mobile vet 6 to 8 weeks ahead; confirm how many surgeries per day they can take
- Set the price (or free) and how people book: phone number, form, or first-come
- Recruit 4 to 6 volunteers: check-in desk, carrier handling, recovery watch, cleanup
- Poster the neighbourhood 2 to 3 weeks out: vet offices, pet stores, laundromats, community centres, building lobbies
- Arrange loaner carriers and traps; every drive turns away cats that arrive in cardboard boxes
- Plan recovery space: warm, quiet, one cat per carrier, someone watching
- Collect simple numbers on the day: cats fixed, males/females, ear-tips done. Funders ask for these.
- Afterwards: thank volunteers, post results, and book the next date while momentum is high
Supplies list
- Folding table, chairs, and signage for check-in
- Carriers and traps (more than you think), old towels and blankets to cover them
- Intake forms and pens: owner or caretaker name, contact, cat description, ear-tip consent
- Cleaning: paper towels, pet-safe disinfectant, garbage bags, spare newspaper
- Recovery: heating pads for post-surgery cats, water dishes, small amounts of food for after wake-up
- Cash box or payment method if charging; receipt pad for donations

- Ask your municipality and local SPCA about low-cost spay/neuter programs; call 311 for city services
- Ear-tipping during surgery is standard for community cats; it is how everyone knows the cat is already fixed
